Storyline:
A mysterious stranger and an irregular demonstration of savagery drag a town of rebels and dolt into the ridiculous focus of vengeance. A mysterious vagabond (Ethan Hawke) and his canine process toward Mexico through the fruitless desert of the Old West. Expecting to abbreviate their outing, they slice through an enormous valley, arriving in the failed-to-remember town of Denton – – a spot presently known as a valley of brutality. The previously well-known mining town is almost deserted and constrained by a gathering of nonconformists and boneheads, including the apparently unapproachable Gilly (James Ransone), the instigating child of the town’s troublesome marshal.
REVIEW: Paul (Ethan Hawke) is riding to Mexico with his dog Abbie. He’s a former soldier who has had enough of violence after killing Indian civilians. In the town of Denton, he is challenged to a fight by braggart Deputy Gilly Martin (James Ransone). Only after Abbie is threatened, Paul decides to knock out Gilly with one punch. Ellen (Karen Gillan) is Gilly’s equally annoying girlfriend. The only friendly face is Mary-Anne (Taissa Farmiga). Gilly’s father Marshal Clyde Martin (John Travolta) pushes him to leave the town and he’s happy to do so. Gilly and his friends catch up to Paul and kill his dog.
